Yoga on the Beach say 'Hey'

One of our Falmouth faves is celebrating Spring (a time when most are looking to shed a few of those extra winter pounds in preparation for summer). The Sea Crest Beach Hotel, located on Buzzards Bay in North Falmouth, has the perfect fix to jump start diet and exercise routines with its Fun & Fitness Getaway Weekend from April 14-16, 2012. This action packed workout schedule will have guests ready to hit Old Silver Beach kicking off with an hour long, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning Zumba dance class. Following a light lunch at Red’s, Sea Crest Beach Hotel’s ocean front restaurant and lounge, guests will enjoy a Pilates class that aims to condition, strengthen and tone the body from head to toe.

The Sea Crest Beach Hotel's Quaint Lobby

After a healthy Dinner at Red’s, the weekend continues as guests and local residents are invited to dance the night away in a Salsa & Swing dance class from 7 to 11 p.m. After a well-earned rest, a tranquil yoga class awaits on Sunday morning, followed by a balanced breakfast with a nutritionist who will be on hand for guests seeking advice on putting their eating habits and food plans on the fast track to success. Those looking to head outdoors are encouraged to grab a bike and hit the trail, or enjoy a walk on the sands of Old Silver Beach. Vermont’s Best Hiking

New Life Hiking Spa

A hiking spa? Who’s ever heard of such a thing? Well, we have and we thought it sounded pretty damn cool. Located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont, since 1978, New Life Hiking Spa is known for its exhilarating hiking program. A world renowned weight loss retreat located in Killington, New Life also offers delicious healthy meals in a comfortable atmosphere where you can experience the peace of the outdoors in a down-to-earth, country inn environment.

Re-opening after Hurricane Irene, New Life Hiking Spa (which was forced to close for two weeks due to the aftermath) has also decided to extend their season until October 16th!

A bit about the joint: In January of 2010 & 2011, New Life Hiking Spa was selected as one of the top 10 fitness vacations in the world by MSNBC. It was also selected by Shape Magazine as “one of the eight best weight loss spas” and by Health Magazine as “one of four great weight loss spas.” And, for four years in a row (2006-2010), New Life has won Best for Weight Loss, Best for Hiking and Best for Affordability by SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards.

Pretty impressive.

“The saying goes, ‘After a hurricane comes a rainbow and in this case, it’s a rainbow of fall colors in Vermont”, said Kathleen LeSage who owns New Life with her husband, Jimmy. Mrs. LeSage has been doing some research about fall foliage and found a great article on “What factor affects the intensity of fall colors”. It states, “Mild, sunny days combined with cold but not freezing nights will produce brilliant colors, as will adequate rainfall in autumn”. Vermont has definitely had the adequate rainfall, but luckily with little wind, so leaves were not lost in the storm. “It seems like it is really the perfect conditions for a brilliant foliage season!”

The weather is gorgeous and the trees are starting to change, so why don’t you kick start your own life and opt for change too?

Boot Camp: Baby You Were Born To Ride

My daddy taught me how to ride, but I still need to giddy up a few times a year just to make sure I haven’t lost my seat (as the cowboys say).

I was born and reared in Arizona so if I didn’t know the difference between a Palomino and a Pinto, I’d be a real disgrace to the community. Not to mention the fact that my grandmother was half-Chiricahua Apache.

So, what better way to feel out your own native roots than a little Cowgirl Boot Camp? This trip is perfect for the Sex & the City Slicker. Whether you’re Samantha or Charlotte, Alisal Ranch & Resort, nestled on 10,000 acres in Santa Barbara wine country lets you rough it alongside expert wranglers at the Cowgirl, Couples, or Mother/Daughter all-inclusive ‘Boot’ Camp getaways.

Do it with your boo, your mom, or the girls, Alisal has three to four day adventures combining the best of wild west with the adventure of working on a real cattle ranch.

You’ll learn how to “saddle up” before heading out for a two-hour morning horseback ride along Alisal’s 50-miles of trails, lead by a resident ranch hand. For the more experienced rider and horse enthusiast, there’s also the chance to try barrel racing in an authentic open-air, western arena. If roping cattle isn’t your thing, you can head to Alisal’s 100-acre spring fed lake for archery lessons, hike in Deer Canyon, bike to Nojoqui Falls, boat on Alisal Lake, or play tennis.

Breakfast rides to the historic Old Adobe camp, campfires with award-winning singing cowboy Dave Stamey, and two-step lessons at the historic Santa Ynez’s Maverick Saloon, all round-out the horsey experience.

Can I get a ‘Yee-Haw?”

Guests can also schedule a private bootcamp, November through March, by booking a minimum of 10 rooms. Bachelorette party anyone? Alisal offers 73 (telephone-and-television-free) guest cottages and suites, two 18-hole championship golf courses, six tennis courts and a 100-acre spring-fed lake with water sports, including fly fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, in addition to the brand new Alisal Fitness Center & Spa.

Cowgirl Bootcamp is offered:

• November 9-12, 2009

The Cowgirl Bootcamp is $2,450.00 based on double occupancy, including tax and service charges. Additional per person and suite rates are available upon request.

The Cowgirl Bootcamp package includes:

• Studio accommodations with wood-burning fireplace for three nights, four days
• Cocktail receptions each evening
• All meals including wine with dinner
• Private winemaker’s presentation
• Gourmet picnic lunch at Alisal Lake
• Daily horseback rides
• Rope and barrel racing lesson at Alisal rodeo arena
• Traditional hat shaping at Alisal Lake
• Line dancing instruction
• Archery lesson
• Nightly live entertainment in Alisal’s Oak Room

And… a gift basket filled with western amenities on arrival (since who doesn’t love a little swag?)

Giddy Up Girlz. These boots were meant for riding.
