Eco Conscious Holiday Goodies for the Road… or the Sofa

Retrospec’s NRDC Collection

When we spotted Retrospec, an e-commerce brand that offers active-lifestyle products for adults and youth across bike, skate, paddle, snow and fitness, we had to inform our readers as they just launched a Second Nature Apparel Collection with 100% of sales donated to NRDC, the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Since 1970, the NRDC has worked to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. They combine the power of more than three million members and online activists with the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild.

A great cause married to a great collection which includes a long-sleeve ($34.99), crewneck ($29.99), sweatpants ($29.99), baby onesie ($24.99) and a mug ($14.99).

I’d say that’s a stylish feel good reason to shop this holiday!

Eco-Friendly Bag Find

I was lucky enough to meet this cool chick in college named Jennifer Silbert. She went on to become an architect and, one day on Facebook, I noticed she was making some of the coolest recycled bags I’d ever seen.

Here’s her story.

And get that bag of hers!

“We started Rewilder 4 years ago after strong careers in fashion (Lisa) and architecture (me), where we were distressed with the waste we were creating. I was teaching a Materials Innovation class at Art Center in Pasadena when I started doing research on post-industrial waste and came across some incredible materials being thrown away on a massive scale. It’s truly overwhelming.

So now we use these amazing materials to make the best bags for the planet. A few other bags out there claim to be sustainable but we are 100% – zero waste, high quality, made in LA. Nothing excites us more than making something amazing from unconventional, industrial materials that would have ended up in a landfill.”

Need we say more?

She’s a gem, her cause noble, and so are bags.

Organic Beauty Must Haves For Travel Junkies

Inflight Travel Kit

The Organic Pharmacy In-flight Travel Kit

We first became familiar with The Organic Pharmacy when we were living in London and recently heard the news that you can now purchase their products here in the US. So, for the traveler who wants to keep their skin eco-fresh and free of toxins while traveling or on vacay, listen up!

Here are a few of travel ready products we think you should try out to get a taste of their goods:

The In-flight Kit

This is an essential kit for the frequent or long haul flyer, a mixture of homeopathic remedies, flower essences, and oils to soothe and support the body during flight. The kit includes: Arnica & Cocculus 30cH (14g), Coffea, Passiflora, Avena Sativa, Valeriana 6cH (14g), Cocculus, Tabacum, Petrolatum 6cH (14g), Rose Facial Spritz (10ml), Monoi Lip Gloss (5ml), Lip & Eye Treatment Cream (5ml), and Rose Herbal Hand & Nail Balm (5ml). Since I’m always so dry and suffering on flights (as much as I love a good jaunt), this one is great for the inflight re-boot.

Discovery Travel Kit

I’m all about travel and discovery so this kit is perfect for someone who wants to try something new. All developed using the latest scientific research to enhance and restore radiance to all skin types. They include four steps to beautiful skin – cleanse, hydrate, moisturize, and repair to reveal fresh, glowing and youthful skin. The kit contains:  Carrot Butter Cleanser 10ml, Herbal Toner 10ml, Antioxidant Face Gel 5ml, Antioxidant Face Firming Serum 5ml, Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream 10ml, and an Organic Muslin Cloth.

Rose Balm

Healthy Recycled Bottles for You and Your Baby

recycled baby bottles

Traveling without exposing yourself to toxin-laden plastics or contributing to the massive waste problem created by bottled water can often be a difficult challenge. We should know. We love our Bobble, but we also love a good stainless steel option. And, although we don’t yet have little ones of our own, our contributors do, which is why we wanted to tell our peeps about Pura bottles. Pura bottles are a toxin-free, durable and cost-effective alternative to buying bottled water or using petroleum-based (i.e. plastic) reusable bottles. Unlike other options on the market, stainless steel is much more durable than plastic, glass or aluminum bottles because steel bottles do not shatter or crack and are much more puncture resistant. The bottles are made from 60% recycled steel and are 100% recyclable at end of life, not that you’ll ever need to as they carry a lifetime warranty in line with the company’s ‘One Life, One Bottle’ mantra.

Not only healthy for the planet, Pura Stainless bottles are one of the safest options on the planet as the ONLY 100% plastic free bottle on the global market. Bottles are made from food-grade stainless steel which, unlike other materials, does not leach harmful chemicals, does not require chemical linings and is resistant to corrosion and staining. Even tops are 100% plastic and BPA free – made of stainless steel and medical grade silicon. Available in adult water bottles as well as a baby bottle line (see photo above) for those traveling with little ones.

Retails for $15.99-$17.99
